“I’m engaged, what’s next??” 10 to-dos’s after engagement

Once that darling ring is placed on your finger all you can probably think about is how happy and excited you are! You’ll have to go tell all your family and friends of this wonderful news. Once the pure excitement subsides, and reality sets in… whats next?! Here are our 10 to-do’s after engagement.

Set a Date

The average engagement lasts about 14 months. If you decide you want to bask in the light of being engaged for a year or two, there is nothing wrong with that! Or if you want to skip out on being engaged and just be married to your best friend immediately, do it! Whether or not you decide to wait a little or get planning the moment the ring is on your finger, your first step is; a date and a season you both love.

Set a Budget

This to-do is very important. Setting a budget will prepare you for success. The better you know your budget limitations, the easier planning will be. Even if your budget is small, there is always a way to make your dream wedding come to life.

Pick a Theme

When you close your eyes and picture your dream wedding, what does that look like? Do you want a elegant indoor ballroom wedding with lots of floral? Would you like to keep it casual and have an outdoor rustic wedding at a private estate? The options are endless, but you will need to narrow down what you like and do not like.

Draft a Guest List

This may seem like a to-do that can be put off until a later date, wrong! When it comes time to go hunting for the perfect venue, every venue will ask, “How many guests will you be having?”. It is important to know before seeing a venue your guest count because there is a possibility they cannot accommodate you. The guest list will not only help you with the venue but also the vendors you book. This step in the to-do’s is one you do not want to forget!

Pick Your Wedding Party

This to-do can help you out in the long-run, if it is done sooner. The sooner you have a set bridal party the sooner they are able to help you out! It is important to be cautious of your bridal party as well. They are taking time and money to be a part of your special day. Tell them your plans in advance so that they all know what to expect. Make sure they know they are appreciated!

Hire a Planner

We’ve got you covered! If you are feeling overwhelmed after your first to-do’s hire a planner. Planning a wedding on your own can be very stressful. We want you to have a stress free and enjoyable engagement while preparing for your marriage. Let a planner take the load off and help create your dream wedding for you. You have options too! You can hire a full-time planner that will take care of it all, you provide your vision and opinions and they’ll do the work. Or, you can hire a day-of planner. If you feel you can plan everything but on your wedding day you want someone there to setup, direct and make sure everything is running smoothly the day-of planner is perfect for you. Hiring a planner will give you a peace-of-mind and a sense of relief in this overwhelming time.

Book a Venue

Your venue will be in all of your pictures, where you’ll have your first dance as Mr. and Mrs., and where all your friends and family will gather to see you get married. This to-do is a special one. You need to explore all your options. There are hundreds to chose from so do not settle. You will know it’s the one if you get that happy feeling of butterflies in your stomach all over again.

Go Dress Shopping

Before you go shopping come up with what you think you might want. Many women create Pinterest boards or bring in magazine pictures. Typically you only have an hour with your consultant, you want to make the most out of this time. If you have pictures of what up like and don’t like this will help with the search and maybe get you in your dream dress sooner than you thought.

Before all your parties begin make sure you are registered! Your guests want to be helpful to the soon to be newlyweds and gifts are a perfect way to get them started with their new lives together. You need to take time to go to your favorite stores and register for all that you need and want. This needs to happen before your first wedding party begins. But, if you are having an engagement party, this is the one time you do not include your registry on the invite. If people feel the need to bring you a gift to your engagement party you can tell them where you are registered by word of mouth.

Insure That Ring

Engagement ring insurance will give you and your fiance a peace of mind. Engagement rings are not cheap and having it insured will give you a chance to replace it if it gets damaged or lost on your Caribbean Honeymoon.
